August 2020 Newsletter

Thank you to all who were able to attend our virtual summer meeting this past month! We had a great turnout with members of many other organizations meeting with us over Zoom to discuss our past and future plans to push New Jersey forward towards Medicare for All alongside our sibling groups. We hope to see you again soon, virtually or in person.

Upcoming Organization Workshop

Saturday, August 15th at 12:00 PM, we will be joining with Central Jersey DSA for a workshop on organizing people during a pandemic, keeping people safe and physically distant. All are welcome, so please send out the link to anyone who may be interested: https://actionnetwork.org/events/organizing-101-workshop-3/.

Andy Kim Visit

Thanks to Tom Cannavo for joining a Zoom call with a member from Representative Andy Kim’s staff and discussing healthcare response to the pandemic. While concerns were raised by the staff member about H.R.1384, she did make a point to say that Kim is committed to healthcare for all. It was asked of Kim to assist with any “gaps” that may exist with the legislature in the future.

How Much Can You Save?

We have added sheets to our website that you can share and fill out to see how much money you and others can save with Medicare for All. Check it out here!

Medicare for All Resolutions

We are so proud of both Red Bank and Maplewood townships for passing resolutions backing Medicare for All! With how everyone is being affected by the coronavirus, it is so obvious that we need healthcare coverage to everyone in our communities. If you would like information about passing a local resolution in your town, please contact us for materials and support.

Call Your Representatives

Have you called your representatives about the Health Care Emergency Guarantee Act? Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Pramila Jayapal introduced emergency legislation to strengthen Medicare to cover all healthcare costs for those uninsured, plus out-of-pocket expenses for those with insurance, for the duration of the pandemic. After this passes, we may have an easier path to travel promoting Medicare for All.
