The Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling (ECPIP) just released the results of its September 2022 poll, which NJUHC commissioned, about support for Medicare for All among NJ voters. It is uplifting, indicating that 71% of NJ voters support Medicare for All to achieve universal health care coverage, regardless of age or employment status.
Almost all (93%) of NJ voters that support Medicare for All also favor any efforts NJ might make to provide universal coverage sooner, instead of waiting for the federal government to do so. The bill NJUHC drafted in 2017, now in the NJ Assembly as A 4538, would do just that. It authorizes NJ to apply to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the necessary waiver to allow CMS to provide Medicare to every NJ resident.
NJUHC will use these exciting poll results to launch a new outreach and marketing campaign to grow support in NJ for traditional Medicare for All at the federal level, and for A 4538 in NJ. We are embarking on a six-month fundraising effort with a target of $50,000. We will use these funds to expand our staff hours, purchase marketing expertise to help us design and implement a multi-platform campaign to reach new audiences, and grow our data base of donors.
We hope you will help with these new initiatives. Act Blue now manages our donations; reach them here. If you prefer to send a check, please respond to us at [email protected] to obtain the address where your check should be sent . NJUHC is now an incorporated c(4) organization. This allows more flexibility to lobby and advocate for legislation, but it also means that your donations are not tax-exempt. We are offering a copy of Medicare for All: An Economic Rationale to all donors of $200 or more. It is by South Jersey’s own Ken Lefkowitz, and very clearly explains why Medicare for All makes so much sense from a cost and efficiency perspective.
Thank you for your continued support for Medicare for All. We’re in it to win it!
