Red Bank Fix-It Viewing and Panel Discussion

The next big event NJUHC will sponsor, in cooperation with Our Revolution Monmouth County, is on October 1 at 7 PM at the United Methodist Church of Red Bank in Red Bank, NJ.

We will show Fix-It: Healthcare at the Tipping Point and two of the three panelists to handle discussions will be NJUHC board members: Lynn Petrovich represents CPAs for Community Support and Bill Thar, MD, represents Physicians for a National Health Program. The third panelist is Mark Dudzik, National Coordinator of the Labor Campaign for Single Payer.

NJUHC and Allies Prepare Medicare for All Canvassing

Many NJUHC members, and many others in its network, have recently joined National Nurses United’s online training sessions to canvass for Medicare for All.

Those who organize canvass campaigns can choose the ask that they will make of those they engage while canvassing. NJUHC has established three key targets for its suggested ask: Senator Menendez and Congressmen Pallone (NJ-6) and Pascrell (NJ-9).

Central NJ Democratic Socialists of America has been organizing canvassing events in support of Medicare for All for over a year. They collaborated with us at a strategy session on July 30.

To get connected to training and resources for canvassing, please contact Tom Knoche at [email protected].

Support NJ Nurses and Safe Staffing

NJUHC urges you to call your district’s state senator and assembly persons and tell them to support A1470 and S989. These bills establish minimum registered professional nurse staffing standards for hospitals and ambulatory surgery facilities and certain DHS facilities

You can locate your district’s legislators and find their phone number here.

Help us Build Our Social Media

To ensure success in our future campaigns, it’s important that we build our social media base. Please help us by doing the following:

Minneapolis Conference Insights

Several NJUHC members joined hundreds of other activists at Healthcare-NOW’s single-payer strategy conference on June 22-24 in Minneapolis, MN.

A detailed agenda for the conference can be found here, and NJUHC’s takeaway key points can be found here.

Legislative Meetings

NJUHC members and allies met with State Senator Vin Gopal (NJ-11) on July 10 to ask him to sign onto S2598, NJ’s bill that would authorize the federal government to make all NJ residents eligible for Medicare.

Asw. Valerie Huttle of district 37 has agreed to meet with the NJUHC at 1 PMon August 22 at her office in Englewood, NJ.  We hope she will co-sponsor A2269, the Assembly version of S2598.
